Tocotrienols Ameliorate Neurodegeneration and Motor Deficits in the 6-OHDA-Induced Rat Model of Parkinsonism: Behavioural and Immunohistochemistry Analysis

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disease, which progresses over time, causing pathological depigmentation of the substantia nigra (SN) in midbrain due to loss dopaminergic neurons. Emerging studies revealed promising effects some nutrient compounds reducing risk PD. One such compound that possess neuroprotective and prevents neurodegeneration tocotrienol (T3), vitamin E family member. In present study, single dose intracisternal injection 250 µg 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) was used induce parkinsonism male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. Forty-eight hours post injection, SD rats were orally supplemented with alpha (α)- gamma (γ)-T3 for 28 days. The α- γ-T3 evaluated using behavioural immunohistochemistry (IHC). findings from this study supplementation able ameliorate motor deficits induced by 6-OHDA improve neuronal functions inflammation, reversing degradation, preventing further reduction neurons SN striatum (STR) fibre density.
